The Run is a feisty new pop-up newsletter from The Tyee about the 2019 Canadian federal election. Their team wanted a fresh, mobile-friendly email template designed and built for this roughly two-month edition.

Reworking their fish logo, the design alludes to our first-past-the-post electoral system and winning election races. It’s warm, personal, energetic and hopeful. The ads ran exclusively on their website and in emails, and achieved click-through rates which were “by far one of the best” they’ve seen and exceeded industry average for display ads.

The newsletter’s perspectives and content were so well-received, the frequency was boosted from once to twice a week in October 2019 ahead of the election.

The Run tied for gold in the 2020 Digital Publishing Awards’ Best Editorial Newsletter category.
